• New York Times reporter James Risen, who is likely facing prison for refusing to give up an anonymous source for a story and book about the CIA, calls President Obama “the greatest enemy to press freedom in a generation.”

• Oh, also, in case you missed it last night: while projecting tear-gas canisters and firing rubber bullets, Ferguson police screamed threats to “shell” a cameraman (while his livestream was broadcasting to tens of thousands of viewers), and to “mace” Chris Hayes (while he was on the phone with a MSNBC anchor, live on television). As many people commented on Twitter last night, if this is what happens to the members of the media when the world is watching, how does law enforcement act towards members of the community when no one’s watching?

• From Longreads, a reading list of essays and reporting on the growing and shameful “adjunct crisis.”

• And now for some good news: a very clean and calm and organized website showing you Better Places to Buy Books, listing independent bookstores across the country by state (via Nicholas Jackson).
