Editorial Fellowship


The Baffler editorial fellowship provides hands-on experience in both print and web production, as well as mentorship and education in all aspects of editing and magazine publishing. The fellowship pays $1,923.30 every two weeks through the end of January 2027, comes with full benefits, and qualifies for overtime pay.

Responsibilities

Editorial

  • Fact-check pieces for web and print.
  • Research topics, themes, and writers at the behest of the editor.
  • Read and provide feedback on drafts for web and print.
  • Proofread pages for print.
  • Participate in biweekly editorial meetings.
  • Read and reply to unsolicited submissions as needed.

Production

  • Work on specific projects for thebaffler.com, such as generating alt text, tagging, and data entry.

Requirements

  • Highly organized and attentive to detail.
  • Engaged and opinionated about politics and culture.
  • Enthusiasm for The Baffler and knowledge of the magazine’s style and concerns.

Preferred

  • Experience in fact-checking or researching.

This is a full-time position based in New York City, with the option to work from home as needed. The Baffler’s benefits include full health and dental insurance coverage with zero in-network deductible, complete employee premium coverage, and partial partner premium coverage paid for by The Baffler; a health reimbursement account of $2,700; ten days of paid time off; and 401k with a 3% employer contribution and up to an additional 2% employer match. This is a union position.
