Senior Editor
The Baffler is seeking a senior editor to work closely with the editor in chief in determining the overall themes and direction of the magazine and website. With the editor in chief, they commission and edit essays for the print issue. Working with the web editor, they commission and edit essays for the website. The salary range is between $80,000 and $90,000. The position comes with full benefits.
Responsibilities
Editorial
- With editor in chief, conceive of and execute themes and ideas for future print issues.
- Conceive of, assign, and edit 3–5 print essays per issue.
- Conceive of, commission, and assign web stories 1–2 times per month.
- Copyedit and proofread print and web essays as needed.
- With the other senior editorial staff, guide junior staff in writing and editing.
- Consult with the web editor as needed on web coverage.
Marketing & Development
- Assist in the drafting and editing of marketing, event, and development materials as needed.
This is a full-time position based in New York City, with the option to work from home as needed.
