Daily Bafflements

• Ira Glass states that “Public radio is ready for capitalism.” At a marketing event called “Hearing is Believing,” he ventured hopes that podcasts would “move away from a model of asking listeners for money and join the free market.” The Baffler has no more to say on the matter.

• A Wall Street type “warns” Hillary Clinton not to follow in Ed Milliband’s bank-bashing footsteps. “This executive, like several others who cited the U.K. election result as a warning to populists, declined to be identified by name or firm,” Politico reports.

• On the hypothetical machines we want to believe in: “Like the machine itself, the coverage of the EM drive just keeps going and going, propelled, apparently, by nothing at all.”

• More power to Facebook, literally. With “instant articles,” why buy newspapers?
