Daily Bafflements

• President Obama’s State of the Union address is on tonight, and some of the advertisements hyping it are…a bit ominous. Baffler blog contributor Andrew Helms asks, “SOTU or Black Mirror set?”

• Today in Billionaires: According to a new Oxfam report that surprises even us, half of all wealth in the world is held by the top 1 percent, and the gap is widening. By next year, that elite group will hold more wealth than the rest of the world combined.

• The Huffington Post is tracking the top dozen donors for the 2016 presidential campaigns. You won’t be surprised that the Koch brothers are at the top of the list, but you may not have heard of Bob Mercer, a mysterious computer tech tycoon who is likely to back either Rand Paul or Ted Cruz.

• Bafflements Update: Last week we helped spread the news about a devious service that lets people anonymously send packages of glitter to their friends and enemies. Within four days, the founder of ShipYourEnemiesGlitter.com quit and sold the company after being absolutely overwhelmed with orders and media attention. Good job, everyone!
